From 13 to 18 May, Maxime Vassaux from the Institut de Physique de Rennes visited FRASCAL and the Capriccio group for scientific exchange. Maxime is a tenured research scientist at CNRS and has long-standing expertise in modelling and simulation of amorphous materials ranging from inorganic glasses to very soft hydrogels as well as in multiscale simulation techniques. On 15 May, Maxime gave a talk on “Multiscale simulation of inorganic glasses and glass-ceramics mechanics” within our FRASCAL seminar, which attracted a broad audience and stimulated detailed discussions. In particular, Maxime addressed multi-scale simulation techniques linking the material’s atomic structure to the mechanical properties at the macroscale and gave an overview on how mechanical properties of inorganic glasses and glass-ceramics can be studied numerically and what peculiarities arise in this regard.
It was a pleasure to host Maxime and we are looking forward to future exchanges!
