We congratulate Lukas Laubert who completed and successfully defended his project thesis on a comparison between the Capriccio method in 3d with a simplified 1d setting. Lukas set up a one-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional coupled MD-FE system and implemented a smart evaluation scheme to assess the deviation between these two systems. By the highly simplified 1d setting, which mimicks the Capriccio coupling by a chain of particles connected to an “FE system” of linear trusses, he investigated the influence of the coupling parameters and discussed it in view of the 3d setting. Based on Lukas’ thesis, subsequent studies will focus on further understanding of the physical meaning of the coupling parameters and on strategies to further reduce deviations.

We wish Lukas all the best for his master’s studies, where he is currently focussing on constitutive modelling of epoxies from biological sources.
